Rural Transportation

Rural communities are at the heart of what we do

In much of Mid-Michigan, the nearest specialist, dialysis center, or hospital can be a long drive away, and public transit doesn't reach. We built CarePath to close that gap.

  • Long-distance medical trips

Rides from rural homes to regional hospitals, specialists, and dialysis centers, with distance quoted upfront.

  • Country addresses welcome

Long driveways, gravel roads, and homes off the main road. Tell us about your pickup and we'll plan for it.

  • Wait-and-return trips

For long appointments far from home, we can wait or come back, so you're not stranded miles away.

  • Recurring rural schedules

Standing rides for dialysis and therapy, planned around longer travel times.

Payment & Insurance

Ways to pay for your ride

Every situation is different. Here's how rides are typically paid for in Michigan — and we're happy to help you sort out your options before you book.

Private Pay

Pay per trip

The simplest option, with no insurance paperwork. Rates depend on distance, wait time, and the level of assistance needed. Call for a free quote before you book.

  • Upfront quote, no surprises
  • First 15 minutes of waiting free, then $25.00 per hour
  • Free cancellation with 24 hours' notice; $15.00 late-cancellation and $30.00 no-show fees. See our Terms of Service.
  • Pay at the end of your ride: tap or insert any major credit or debit card in the vehicle, or use Cash App

Medicaid

Michigan Medicaid

Medicaid covers rides to covered medical appointments for members who have no other way to get there. Rides are scheduled through your Medicaid Health Plan or your local MDHHS office.

  • Call the member services number on your plan card to schedule
  • Ask your plan whether CarePath Transport is an approved provider
Medicare

Medicare & Medicare Advantage

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) generally doesn't cover routine wheelchair van rides. Many Medicare Advantage plans include a transportation benefit.

  • Check your plan's Evidence of Coverage
  • Or call your plan's member services to ask about ride benefits
Facilities

Facility & agency billing

Hospitals, dialysis centers, care facilities, and agencies can set up an account with standing orders and consolidated invoicing.

  • One point of contact for scheduling
  • Recurring rides set up once

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a ride?
We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours ahead so we can guarantee your preferred time. Same-day rides are often available too — send a request and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Do you accept Medicaid or insurance?
Private pay is always available. Medicaid rides are scheduled through your Medicaid Health Plan or local MDHHS office, and many Medicare Advantage plans include a ride benefit. See Payment & Insurance for details, or call us and we'll help you check your options.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
Yes. In most cases one companion may ride at no extra charge. Let us know when booking so we can plan for seating and any additional assistance.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Saginaw, Bay, Midland, Genesee, Isabella, and Wayne counties, plus much of West Michigan. Long-distance trips are available, too. If you're unsure whether we reach your area, give us a call — we're glad to check.
Do you serve rural areas?
Yes. Rural communities are a core part of our service. We pick up from country homes, long driveways, and gravel roads, and take riders to hospitals, specialists, and dialysis centers across the region. Long-distance trips are quoted upfront, and we can wait or return for long appointments.
Can you set up recurring rides for dialysis or therapy?
Absolutely. Standing appointments are one of our specialties. We'll build a recurring schedule so you never have to rebook the same trip each week.
